About Us

To our team, there is nothing more amazing than a day spent in the wild and if you are here, we think you would agree.  No matter the season, no matter the weather, you can find us engaged in all aspects of the outdoor lifestyle from hunting to fishing or maybe just wondering through the woods.

Our goal for this site is to provide honest reviews and quality advice on all of the gear you use most to ensure your time spent outdoors is as enjoyable, safe, and productive as it could be.  Whether is a few hours in the field hunting or a week in the backcountry, what you take with you makes a difference.  We recognize the importance of your product choices and endeavor to help you make the right choice!

Most of what you will find here are reviews of gear for a variety of outdoor pursuits accompanied by as much information on the particulars of that activity as our wealth of knowledge permits.  It doesn’t matter if you are a seasonal deer hunter or the most hardcore woodsman, we want you to have the best gear possible for every adventure and to understand its uses, limitations, and any valuable information we can dig up.

We don’t sell any outdoor equipment and aren’t on the payroll of any outdoor company.  None of our reviews are sponsored and no one can buy a good review from us.  If you have an outdoor product, you are welcome to send it our way but make sure you believe in it because the review we give will be honest and to the point.  If we list a product it’s because we believe it to be a quality piece of gear that fits within the normal value for quality range that we would expect.

When we walk out our door, we want the best gear we can get and believe that you do too.  No one chooses to go unprepared and we want to spread the ethos of being ready for any occasion to keep you safe and active in the many wild places around our country.

Don’t hesitate to give us your feedback or recommendations.  If there is a topic you want covered, reach out to us.  We exist because of you and strive to provide the best service possible to the ever-growing outdoor community.

Eric Patton

Eric grew up hunting, fishing, and roaming the hills of the Easter U.S. and has dedicated himself to becoming a well-rounded outdoorsman.  Anytime there is an opportunity for a little fishing or a morning spent hunting, you will find him in the woods.  In his off time, he teaches a variety of outdoor skills including land navigation and basic survival.  Recently a Search and Rescue member, he has begun learning the ancient art of human tracking in a variety of terrains.

When he isn’t outdoors, Eric frequently writes about the outdoors and interacts heavily with a number of online communities dedicated to backcountry camping, conservation, trapping, and survival skills.  He is dedicated to preserving the old ways rather than taking on technology to solve problems.

Bobby Scherer

Welcome! I am Bobby and I love all things outdoors. I created this website as a repository for information dedicated to expanding the enjoyment of our wild heritage and preserving it for future generations. As a part of this mission, I want to help you find the gear that suits you best and that will stand the test of time.

If you are here, I assume you are as passionate about the outdoors as I am. The best way to preserve our wildlands and the rights we have in using them is to make them popular again. In an age of video games and streaming video, too many young people are losing the sense of wonder that a forest used to give. We put this information at your fingertips in hopes that you will share it with those around you to provide the best outdoor experiences for everyone.
